40hz
Afternoon chaps/chapettes Recently acquired a very lovely German Streamer LX4 from this very shire and decided to string it up with Elites, 35-95 gauge. Playing at band practice last night the D and G strings were practically non existent! Huge volume and presence drop, unusable really. Is this just a characteristic of strings this light? There wasn't a problem with the previous strings (unsure as to what they were, but certainly a heavier gauge). I'm gonna try raising the pickup height a tad on those strings but just wanted to check I'm not missing something or have seriously dud strings. Cheers in advance
PlungerModerno
If the strings have a decent break angle over the saddle and nut (not rattling around muting themselves) - then it's probably the strings! Easy way to check is to hit the string fairly hard and touch the string behind the nut or saddle. It should be vibrating but not significantly. Try playing the highest fret on each of the strings - that takes the neck out of the equation. If one or two strings sound a lot quieter . . . Somethings wrong. If pickup height isn't working - switch out strings. IME light gauge strings sound more open and twangy (well rounds do) - Shouldn't cause significant volume issues. 40hz
Good ideas, I'll test out your suggestions and report back!
40hz
OK so, checked all the strings, no vibrations at saddle or nut with a solid break angle so all good there. Did an acoustic test fretting at 24th fret, all good unamplified. Raised the P pickup under D+G and then played through headphones, all seems well. Can't get a proper amplifier test at full pelt done yet though! Edited January 31, 2016 by 40hz
