Skol303
Oh yeah... and it might be nice to share some info on what gear you're using: make and model of bass/amp; EQ settings, etc. Could help folks when trying to [s]avoid[/s] acquire certain tones
Cameronj279
This seems more like an idea I could get into. Question though. Is it allright to have more than one bass track? Reason I ask if I'm currently working on a melody type thing for my bands song but if I can't have the guitar track in the back I'd do the chords...doesn't really make sense otherwise! Edit : The title seems perfect to me! Edited January 31, 2016 by Cameronj279
Sure! The very simplest option is to use a smartphone if you have one. Just place it a few feet from your speaker cab, hit record and start playing. It'll sound rather crap, but that doesn't matter. We're interested in good baselines for this challenge, not necessarily good recordings. A better option would be use something like a Zoom H1 portable mic. Better still would be to DI (direct input) your bass or amp into a computer and record using free software - like Audacity (very easy to use) - or a digital audio workstation, like Reaper (more difficult to use but more rewarding). Plenty of info on this subject here: Beginner's Guide to Home Recording If you get stuck or want any help - just ask Edited January 31, 2016 by Skol303

Grangur
I just recon seeing folk play stuff that's low-tech, simple and effective would be great. You can record using a Web cam with an integrated mic, if you want to keep it really simple.

Dad3353
I suppose that keyboard bass lines are out..? Just 'real' basses, no Prophets, Moogs or stuff..? Just clarifying, as I do both (no, you fool; not at the same time..! ).

If it works out, we can perhaps look to include synth bass in future.

Twincam
Well it's nice to see the idea gained a bit more support it seems. I suppose I best enter myself. I shall be trying to record in the very simplest and quickest form possible in the true spirit of the 60 sec noodle. I might just plonk an iPad or phone near the amp and no fx, or I might record direct and add a bit of fx.
