bubinga5 Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 (edited) Was watching this whole dvd with a friend today. Raphael Saadiq live in Boston. Always blows me away. The guy on the keys at the end is very special. @ 7.50 minutes. No flashy bass from Raphael, just great song writing and groove. i just love the guitar over his bass playing. mingsta Posted January 31, 2016 Posted January 31, 2016 Saw him at the Jazz cafe many years ago and love his stuff from the Tony Toni tone (sp?) days and Lucy Pearl. Quote
blue Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 This is a guy I've always loved. One of a kind talent. I'm not sure why his career isn't further along. Blue Quote
ivansc Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 Anybody besides me feel the spirit of Chuck Rainey (when he was being a bass player & not the funkapotamus) in him? Nice player. Quote
Huge Hands Posted February 3, 2016 Posted February 3, 2016 (edited) I love Raphael's stuff, including his bass playing. As an alternative, if you search "Rapahel Saadiq live" on Youtube, there is a gig from the North Sea Jazz festival in 2011. The track on the OP's link is at around 9mins 30, but RS is not playing bass on that, only singing. I prefer that version - and the keyboard player gets to go mad on that one too!
