Grangur Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 When watching Pino Sunday night I noticed he's using Grolsch washers. I then got to wondering how wide-spread their use is amongst those who could clearly afford to buy the flash technology. Can't say I've got very far, but I wonder how many folk we can find? https://youtu.be/DcFiQXKa9Ok Jeff Beck https://youtu.be/TRjiMN2qJHI Pino Palladino https://youtu.be/CnSfTEdAL-w Brian May Quote
White Cloud Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Not sure about the washers...but I love the beer. Delicious! Quote
Sammers Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Must be pretty widespread as Fender have their own branded rubber washers but if you don't get to drink beer to get them, what's the point?! http://www.thomann.de/gb/fender_strap_blocks.htm Quote
LayDownThaFunk Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 (edited) Easier and better than any 'official' straplock IMO. RockfordStone Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 ive started using them over strap lockers, cheaper and just as effective Quote
machinehead Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I use them on all my basses. I like them more than "real" straplocks too. Frank. Quote
Grangur Posted February 1, 2016 Author Posted February 1, 2016 I use tap washers from Homebass. At about 30p for 5 it's good value. There must be some more famous faces that use the red rubber though? Quote
LayDownThaFunk Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 Timmy C I know does because he's the one who got me into them. Quote

rushbo Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 I bought a bag of 50 from Ebay a few years ago. They're ace. I'm not a huge fan of the beer tho - I'm more of a Budweiser kinda guy (runs and hides from approaching horde of CAMRA geeks...) Quote
toneknob Posted February 1, 2016 Posted February 1, 2016 More Pino (I've posted this more times than hot dinners I think) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFgFFNXahcg Quote

BottomE Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Never knew about them. Thanks seems a much better idea than fiddly straplocks. Quote
Jazzneck Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 (edited) I've been using them since 1996 when I spotted a guy in Germany using them. The beer, like all lagers, is awful; much prefer IPA. However, a more famous user is Keef, Hyde Park 2013 - you can see 'em on the DVD. Edited February 2, 2016 by Jazzneck Quote
LayDownThaFunk Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 Which IPA? They're thousands out there! Quote
casapete Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 As a non real ale drinker, I like Grolsch. It has a flavour that makes it stand out from other lagers, but guessing it's a marmite kinda thing though. The problem is sourcing the flip top bottles as most of the stuff these days is in regular bottles / cans. As mentioned, ebay handy for just the washers. Quote
At this sort of level, isn't the choice more likely made by their guitar techs? They are handed a guitar already set up and they play it. Ask them what strap locks they use and they'll probably give a quizzical look and wonder what you're talking about as they can' t remember the last time they had a strap problem. Ok, I'm probably exaggerating, but you know what I mean. Quote

toneknob Posted February 2, 2016 Posted February 2, 2016 A similar thread on thegearpage.net - someone said "Yes, because nothing looks more professional than a piece of pink rubber holding your strap in place."
