MacDaddy
How do you set your channel and master volume levels with your multi fx pedals? I know some people have the master to full, but others set it to the same volume of the amp with the fx switched off. But if you do this how do you set your patch levels? r16ktx
Not completely sure what you mean by channel volume, unless it's pre amp gain, but does this help? http://line6.com/support/topic/2513-master-volume-or-channel-volume/

Thanks for the attached will have a read.
IBWT
I always try to set the volume on my effects so that they match the volume without them, unless for some reason those effects need to be louder (e.g. boosters for soloing). Makes it much easier live.

Unless the desired effect is to change volume temporarily (for solo etc.) all effects (both as part of a multieffect and single pedals) should really be set to unity gain (you can enable/bypass the effect and it should sound the same volume). Not keeping an eye on your gain structure like this can cause problems later on.

stevebasshead
With your signal going through the multi fx but with no fx engaged the multi fx master volume should be set so that the volume is the same as it would be if you were plugged directly into your amp. That way if your multi fx ever died mid gig you can quickly go direct to your amp without upsetting the mix levels out front. Then each fx can have its individual level set (as others have said) so that it matches fx engaged or not unless you want it to be different.
