The Hat
What's on a par quality wise, and price wise section me hand with an American Fender Jazz ?
Cato
A Mexican Fender jazz & new pickups? On a more serious note second hand USA Fenders seem to go for between £500-£800 in the marketplace here and there's a load of highly respected pre owned stuff in that bracket from Lakland & G&L to Music Man & Maruswotsit. Kev
Par, most jazz bass types built in the far east. Logo on the headstock goes an awful long way with Fender, unfortunately. Buy a Squire Classic Vibe for a fraction of the price. 9/10, it is more than comparable, and you can probably buy 3 for the cost of a US Standard. Crazy, really. thebassist
You do have to be careful with US Standard Jazz Basses - considering they should be more or less the same, the differences between them can be quite staggering. Having said that, the ones I've owned have been excellent.
JTUK
IMO, I don't think par is good enough.... I've not seen many good American Fenders of late.
chris_b
If you can find a good used Fender Am Std Jazz (one that feels good and plays well) it might be worthwhile swapping out the pots and pickups and doing a proper shielding job on it. Otherwise I'd always look at Lakland first.

mr zed
Just out of interest - why do you ask? Is this for a potential purchase?
GrammeFriday
Sandberg California TT4
In purely financial terms, yes - both cost about the same (i.e. about £1300 new). But in terms of build quality they are not on a par at all - the TT leaves the Am Standard in the dust. And the TT will be infinitely customisable - any colour combination you like, blocks, dots or plain fretboard, your choice of fingerboard wood, matched headstock if you want, etc etc etc ... ambient
I had two 5 string Fenders 3 or 4 years ago. One was a Marcus Miller the other an American standard. Both had neck pockets that weren't cup properly. They were too wide and cut funny. Both had string through body option, and had little cup things in the body holes that fell out when you took the strings out. The US standard just felt cheap. The Marcus Miller was nicer but not worth the money that it originally cost.
The Hat
Well I've bought it now. Thought the sale was gonna fall through which is why I asked the original question. However I'm now the proud owner of an Fender American Jazz. To me it's quality and feels so nice to me

The Hat
Because I started it when I thought the deal with the Fender was gonna fall through. Luckily it didn't so I didn't have to think of other guitars. Which is what I've already put a few answersago Edited February 14, 2016 by The Hat
thebassist
My 2013 American Standard Fender Jazz Bass was identical to yours looks wise - sunburst and rosewood - it's one of the best basses I've ever played.

mr zed
Congratulations - the recent Fenders are fantastic. The custom shop pups are punchy and have a great tone. You've scored a very nice bass there.
