JimBobTTD
Ugh, no thanks. That's more like it. I have no rational explanation for my preference. What do you think?
BigRedX
No dots on the front at all unless it's fretless and then discrete off-set dots by the highest string to help with parallax.
Jean-Luc Pickguard
Don't care on a fretted bg - they're only dots if I'm looking at dots when playing it'll be the edge dots, however the cascading dots on my NS CR-5M are a work of genius. The Burpster
I like the look, its feels classy to me. That being said I have basses with no markers and std markers and birds but no assymetric markers. It would definately not put me off buying one! Jean-Luc Pickguard
The offset 'piano-key' pearloid block markers on daughter's daisyrock elite are cool

markytbass
I think off set are a bit quirky, and would rather they were in the center or not at all. I suppose I've got used to center dots or block inlays but dont use them I use the side dots. My Dolphin only has side markers but I do like the dolphin inlays on the pro 1 and the chillies on the Yamaha MA BB.

Lfalex v1.1
I have the lot! Fender, Westone, Ovation, Hohner, Ibanez all with standard, centred dots. Squier VMJ with blocks. Vigier, Warwicks with nothing but edge dots. Yamaha Attitude BS Sig with Offset fingerprint markers. Iceni Zoot with offset (small) dots. Musicman Stingray5 fretless (unlined) with edge dots only. TBH, it doesnt' bother me! All I do need is edge markers on fretless basses. I'd like to try a fretted bass with no markers just to see how much I rely on them/ miss them if they're not there. Maybe something at the 12th? The only real no-no for me (oddly) would be LEDs. I know some people like/need them, but they're not for me. Buzz
Well, given the choice I'd perfer blocks, but I wouldn't mind either way. Offset if done nicely look quite swish, but I'd oddly I'm not a fan or trapezoid ones (think Les Paul) or Sharktooth inlays.
Darkstrike
I like 'em, but it dosn't really matter at all.
warwickhunt
I've never understood the need for them (my main Warwick doesn't have them) but aesthetically I prefer the ones that cross-over...

[/quote] That's niiice! My Ray's got central dots, but I've got a few washburns that have 'em offset and I think they nice...it's purely aesthetics tho, like quibbling over the positioning of a headshock logo...really wouldn't make/break a decision to buy one. It might come into play when I have a custombuild but that's only cos I've GOT the choice!
solofunkyjazz
I prefer none at all, a plain ebony board is very elegent.
MoonBassAlpha
I think they're ok. My U.S. masters has them, ebony on a birdseye board, and looks really nice. The fretless has no front dots, as I do think it looks better without, but has black fret markers on a pao ferro board, which I think looks kinda classy too. I just realised my Godin guitar has offset dots too. I'm sure someone has put some thought into it, just not sure what the reasons are! skankdelvar
Centred up. Given you generally can't see the fingerboard while you're playing, why don't they put them on the back of the neck. And number them. Schoolboy error, imho.
JimBobTTD
Wow...the response has not been at all what I had thought.
Merton
I don't really care. But on my Retroactive I have no front dots at all, and my next custom bass will be the same.
johnnylager
Not fussy me. Don't need the 2nd octave ones anyway
phil_the_bassist
I have to admit, Doods dot layout on his beast is pretty nice, but that's prolly cos the additional dots make it look more like some artistic addition rather than functional feature. Kev
not really bothered by them tbh, as long as they are dots, square blocks, or the rickenbacker type ones, the others inlays iv seen i just dont like.
durandassi
Guess what i like, here's my GB rumour,
MuseMatt
Very christmastree-ish! I don't really care but they do have to fit the layout of a bass. I like it that, when a bass has 'dotted' pickups, the neck has dots too that match. Likewise I don't like dots when you have non-dotted pickups.
