Nicko Posted February 26, 2016 Author Posted February 26, 2016
Yeah, it's lost in translation . Th o p has probably left this thread . Shame
No I'm still following. I read an interesting book on chaos theory once (whats not to enjoy?) and this is kind of the butterfly effect in forum form. Quote
keefbaker Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Talking of butterflies, moths are arseholes, right? I mean, what a bunch of w***ers. Flying around with their this and that. Fair enough, call me an insect racist but f*** moths. Quote
colgraff Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 (edited) My dissertation was on non linear dynamical (it's every bit as sexy as it sounds!). At the time there was some academic interest in the way gossip spreads but no one had managed to find a mathematical model which could be a useful predictor of conversational patterns. Rich Posted February 26, 2016 Posted February 26, 2016 Non linear dynamical academic gossip is all very well and good, but what's that got to do with racist moths? Quote
Just to be even more pedantic than usual, the point of the Mandelbrot Set, Julia Set, etc. is that they never repeat. They are examples of infinite non-repeating lines contained within finite space. In the unlikely event that anyone is intrigued by this concept, read up on the Hilbert Curve. It is a reasonably straightforward example. Quote

Rich Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Or perhaps it's Schrödinger's hotel. You can check out any time you like, but nobody will know if you've left or not. Quote

Perhaps we have a Hilbert thread, one which contains an infinite number of topics within a finite thread. Edited February 28, 2016 by colgraff Quote
