grandad
My recent purchase of a TCE BG250-208 had me wondering what module they used. Is it the B&O, keeping all things Danish so to speak. Also came across this article: http://www.audioholics.com/audio-amplifier/clone-amplifiers and this: http://www.icepower.bang-olufsen.com/en/company/history/ Will all audio/bass amps end up with the same insides, just different packaging & labels? I have to say I'm impressed with the performance my new class D amp.
Dood
I recall seeing a post on a P.A related forum where users posted the gut shots of their power amplifiers. Maybe you've planted the seeds for a very interesting thread that quite literally lifts the lid on manufacturers designs. Open up and say "aaaaaaah", the Doctor is ready for his next patient! grandad
Maybe someone knows. For those of a technical mindset: http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/jun06/articles/loudandlight.htm
MoonBassAlpha
The difference between hifi and bass amps is, though the output stage may have the same modules, each manufacturer will have their own preamp designs that will have a far greater influence on the tone goals than required for a hifi amp. Beer of the Bass
The implementation of limiters can differ across different manufacturers too. I came across a schematic for my GK MB200 online and there is an LED/FET optoisolator fed by the speaker output which reduces the gain of a stage at the end of the preamp. This will affect how the amp responds to peaks even compared to another using the same module.
grandad
I have the 'Spectracomp' loaded as the one effect as I like the little bit of extra 'body' it adds at about 10-11 o'clockish.
Passinwind
[quote name='grandad' timestamp='1455961612' post='2983914'] My recent purchase of a TCE BG250-208 had me wondering what module they used. I think TCE use proprietary modules for most of their stuff though, as do Peavey, Ampeg, Markbass, and Carvin. BTW, there are a few different series of ICE modules, both with and without built in power supplies, and then a myriad of different possible implementation schemes. Edit: found a picture here: http://shop.fixtronix.com/viewcategory.php?groupid=10 Definitely not an ICEpower or Hypex piece. grandad
Thanks, it does look like a proprietary board.
wateroftyne
Yip. There's something about the module that doesn't sound nice to me, so I find it hard to get excited about new Class D's. I'll be back on board in a few generations' time, hopefully.
Chienmortbb
I would guess that that uses one of the NXP, Texas or ST chips. I cannot see a discrete circuit being that compact. Of course that does not answerr the question. Edited February 23, 2016 by Chienmortbb
