Squier P - but which model ?

Have seen this for sale locally.

Obviously, it says Squier Precision Bass on the headstock.

The gold hardware, translucent finish, pearl scratchplate and twin soapbars rather confuse me though.

What is it ?

The Pro Tone's are supposed to be very very good guitars and basses. They were only made for a couple of years before Fender pulled the plug as they were taking sales from both Mexican and American made Fenders, they were so good. Korean made and supposedly with extremely good quality control and woods. Buy straight away if seen I've been told.

It's rather lovely.
Virtually mint condition with hardly a blemish on it. The scratching on the finish is no more than a polish with some cutting compound would easily fix.

I have have pretty large hands and long fingers, so the wide fingerboard is no hardship.

The single passive tone control is genuinely useful over all of its travel and cuts the treble very deep. Far more aggressively than my Fender did and more progressively.

Playability is not quite up to the standard of my Status, but I've done no setup as yet. It could use a 1/4 turn on the truss rod to sort out the relief to where I think it should be. My Status is super low action and has a fabulous neck, so I'm not sure I'll get it to that standard, but it will still be very good.

Over all though, a very pleasing thing. I've realised that I like the slightly odd, so this fits me fine.

Now, let's find a nice sunburst fretless seeing as my black Fender is now gone.
