bubinga5
Its unlimited how much joy and influence i get from this band and Verdine…. 20 + years, and my ears are still finding something good. What a groove, this record has,. If there is anyone who plays for the music it is Verdine. No flash, (maybe a little) no slap, Just the music. Edited February 21, 2016 by bubinga5

The bass on the track live is great,..just don't know who is playing it. But, sure, got to love those songs.

bubinga5
This is really great. Initially i would say no to the Buck Rodgers outfits, but i may be swayed if Phil Bailey said i looked ok. imagine playing bass in this f***in band. lowlandtrees
Saw them early 70s .....think it was supporting Santana in Glasgow Greens Playhouse.........they were probably one of the best live bands that I have ever seen. The song in the OP shows this!
B5 ...check out any live concert footage and you'll see he dances very well..... but he isn't playing a lot of it... and since a move he'll pull isn't choeographed to that degree..he can't be playing the song at all. It is either tracked or has a background player. I'd guess the former otherwise stories would have come out by now. The first time I wondered was when I heard a 1977 album track by Lenny White..can't recall which one. Then I had a stars licks video which was very poor... So now, I wonder how much he ever played.. Just try and find a live concert footage and see if you agree... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wlxMxQWnDxw Edited February 24, 2016 by JTUK
lowdown
I think it all stemmed from when Nathan East was playing while he was dancing. He certainly played on pretty much all the studio stuff. And when someone was playing for him, wasn't it because he had some illness? The gig with Nate East on. http://youtu.be/mfagqCcyE6g

lowland
George Massenburg made an invaluable contribution to EW&F, engineering most of their landmark tracks - I think that's a significant part of the reason the music still sounds fresh today. I don't wish to labour the point but I'm sure there is plenty of stuff should you be interested enough to look.. But yes, someone had great groove in that band at the recorded stage.. The fasting showman
Interesting points made definitely. I'd always wondered whether it was Louis Satterfield playing bass at times (as he was in the ranks of EWF anyway) having heard how good his playing was on Electric Mud and the equivalent Howlin' Wolf Psychedelic album that he did for chess. Pure speculation though!

Crowd wouldn't let them go and Santana came on stage and moved them off in a right hissy fit. Don't know how many times I've seen them and even though they are now really only "Earth", they still put on an awesome show. It's funny reading JT's commnts about Verdine White as last time I saw them as the 3 remaining members, Phil Bailey had his wife helping him out off stage but they did credit her at the end of the show. bubinga5
Slightly off topic but not so much i can't post this mind bending rendition of EWF's Cant Hide Love from Victor Wooten. What a f***in bass player this guy is.! Beautiful 2 part playing from a real master of our instrument.
