Lozz196
So I went along to Wunjos on the strength of this thread, and came away with http://s1128.photobu...5%20Sandblasted So why did I buy it? Was it the great-looking body and lustrous colour? Was it the light weight and impeccable neck? Was it the range of tones on offer - not two but three? Or was it the chance to own a basic, simple instrument that requires a 7-word name. Ladies & Gentlemen, I give you the Fender American Standard Limited Edition Sandblasted Precision.
That`s a beaut, Jack.
dave_bass5
Mine arrived this morning. Very impressed with it so far. The grain is deeper than i though, and its very nice. Everyone at work has gone "wow". Normally its more like "another bass!!" The action seems very high for me, but thats a personal thing and very easy to sort out once i get some new strings on it. Im still at work so not had a chance to plug it in, but i feel its definite a keeper. Edited February 26, 2016 by dave_bass5

dave_bass5
Hi Joe. Yes, it's gone to a good home. Even my GF liked it so its a keeper. I've still not been able to plug it in but I'd say the action is a bit high for me. I've not measured it but I think I can get a bit more out of it. I like a little over 2mm at the 12th fret. I'm also going to shim the neck. All my basses have this and I just like to see less of a gap after the 12th fret. Just a personal thing and not an indication of anything else. The stirngs seem a bit dull so maybe they are your old strings. I was wondering what there were. I've got a balanced set of XL's coming this weekend so until then I'll play it as it came. This is only my second ever second hand bass, and I must say what great condition it's in. It's funny but because it's not brand new my mind set was a bit different to I how I normally am with new basses. In my head this was a tried and tested bass, and I had much less worry about fit and finish than I would a new one. Much less stressful. I'll get some pics up later, although I'm sure YOU know what it looks like lol.
Joebethell
Yeah it was a cracker kinda want it back now! The best thing about a secondhand bass is you don't have to worry about the first ding as much don't think that bass had anything apart from Some faint pick marks between the bridge and scratchplate from me. dave_bass5
NEVER....its mine and I'm never letting it go (standard BC comment which means I'll give it 3 months lol). Nah, it's a keeper unless I find I still can't get on with the neck a few months down the line. I have a feeling this won't be a problem though. Agree about the dings etc. Even taking it out of the bag for the first time wasn't as traumatic as it normally is. I think this type of finish also helps hide any minor dings and scratches, so it seems more durable.
Hutton
Glad you're happy with the bass Dave. David MacGregor is a nice guy to deal with and always stocks nice basses. Edited February 27, 2016 by Hutton
dave_bass5
Cheers. Yeah, with a name like Dave I wouldn't expect anything other than a very smooth transaction :-) I've been doing a bit of a set up this morning and other than the wider neck the bass is so lovely to play. I've already taken that horrible BBOT off and put a Gotoh 201 on it (off my jazz bass). This because the saddle screws on the E string were really digging in to my hand and very uncomfortable. Can't say I notice and change in tone but to me it looks a lot nicer. Very tempted to get a black one at some point, and maybe a tort PG. For now, I'm just going to enjoy playing it. Pics will follow later today. Edited February 27, 2016 by dave_bass5
dave_bass5
Ok. I know we all know what it looks like, but it seems tradition dictates we post pics of new basses.
Maybe I've been unlucky in the past, but this one has none of the minor faults the 3 MIA jazz basses, and Highway-one bass I had a few years ago showed. In fact this seems to able to achieve a better action, without any buzzing, than any Fender (not inc Squiers) I've had in the past. I always like to set my basses up to the same spec, but sometimes I've had to compromise. Not with this one though
