Happy birthday, lad, and wishing you and yours many happy returns of the day

I have all the basses I need - want - can play, excepting an Epiphone Jack Casady Signature, in gold. One day, maybe; one day...

Personally I would go for a '59 - '65 P bass if I could.
Don't rule out pre CBS Fenders (if they float your boat)as they may not be of your YOB, but they certainly were around on your YOB.

Since this is a dream situation, I would go for a custom series II alembic short scale 4 string bass with all the exotic woods and some custom electronics added in the mix.

If someone were going to buy me a bass I`d probably choose a Precision of some sorts. Why, when I already have three - well instead of getting something that I might not gel with, or something that I would most likely not use I`d want it to be a bass that I`d treasure and use often. I`d probably get a Road Worn Precision as I really like them.

Lozz, don't sell yourself short. Since this hypothetical person is hypothetically saying "Money no option" at the very least treat yourself to a Masterbuilt Custom Shop P bass...

I would love a JG series Wal... In the unlikely event one of the 46 were to surface

Thanks for the reminder about selling mine Rob :)

Trickier than I thought, my instant reaction was a 1960 YOB stack knob Jazz in 3TSB. On further reflection I think it might actually be to commission the very nicest passive bass I could think of; probably with two single coil pickups...as for the rest....

Many happies. Were I in your shoes, think I'd start visiting shops, trade shows, etc and just see what took my fancy, rather than deciding by name, reputation, lust and so on. When I found something that did it for me, I'd go for THAT instrument, not the same make/model. You know how variable bits of wood can be. Good hunting.

YOB gets me 1974, which isn't a particularly classic year for basses, but I'd like a jazz bass from that year to go with my similar aged P.

Or a custom shop P or J. That would make me a happy man, tho in truth I have enough basses for my needs already.

An older Wal bass cause i just like them.
My wife bought me my Overwater Custom fretless 6 string for my 50th. Maybe a fretted version would be nice
Also fancy a Ric again.

This could go on and on and on
