ped Posted September 21, 2008 Share Posted September 21, 2008 Hi folks, I am loking at a stereo setup for my bass and possibly also for my brothers Vdrums. I was thinking about a couple of reasonably powered combos (the rig will be used for gigging too but with IEM support so needn't be that powerful - I was thinking possibly even two combos) However I don't really need a pre-amp or any tone shaping as we can do that on our units before the amplifier so my bro mentioned some good powered monitors were the thing for his Vdrums. I know several people here have used a single powered speaker as part of a rig, but is there anything in particular I should avoid or look out for? The advantage of sharing this purchase with my brother is we can probably buy one each and end up with a stereo pair coming from the mixer we currently use with headphones. I guess a budget of £300-£400 per speaker is about right. OR should I be looking at a pair of cabs and a stereo power amp? ped Posted September 21, 2008 Author Share Posted September 21, 2008 Yeah I should have explained that one - my pre is a Roland vbass and pretty much all the synths are stereo and I like to pan the strings on the fretless sim etc etc. Also the drums will be stereo. They never seem to be really Stereo. Dual mono at teh best. Normally just one power amp for both speakers though. Edit: just read throught hose two. They are stereo. My bad. synaesthesia Posted September 21, 2008 Share Posted September 21, 2008 It really depends on your venue, if this is an install in your rehearsal room or a stage/ room where you are pretty much always in control, then you could either get a proper PA - either amp + cab or powered speaker cabs; and your stereo dispersion might work. If you are looking for a gigging rig and your gigs range from the dog and duck to the local sports hall, your stereo effect is pretty much a lost cause for you first, and for the vdrums next. charic Posted September 22, 2008 Share Posted September 22, 2008 im assuming this is a gigging rig due to the back quote. I would suggest mackie 215's with a tapcojuice1400. Bout 500quid 4 the lot.
