Minor technicality, but wouldn't that require purchase of a mirror (+extra?)

No, I was thinking you could cut the slot just above the bridge of your nose with a junior hacksaw, then you could view the plectrum directly.

It would also be a useful talking point for those otherwise awkward dinners with the girlfriend's parents.
