spyder
Hi Guys, Ive been using Chrome flat-wounds and really love the sound but was wondering if there are other alternatives. I use the 40 -100 set for a balanced tension and brightish sound. Are there other brands out there that give this brighter sound with a medium to high tension. Thanks. Lozz196
Fender flats - think they`re the 9050s - are pretty similar.
LayDownThaFunk
And Ernie Ball flats. Not the Cobalt flats.
AndyTravis
The status ones are good. And cheap. Over waters too.
fleabag
SIT Silencers - they feel like a chrome, though not quite as smooth, but near as dammit They give a tad more bite than chromes, which is why i use them on my fretless.
discreet
Another vote for Fender flats - 9050ML 50 - 100. Very smooth, well-balanced across the strings, sound great, good value too.
spyder
Looks like I will try some Fender flats.

spyder
I settled on a set of Steve Harris flats in the end. http://www.rotosound...-signature-set/ They were not my first choice and when I first installed them I thought I had made a BIG mistake. They were very stiff and sounded 'wrong'... BUT after 3 months and some neck and pickup adjustments they sound HUGE. The tension is high and you need good finger strength to play them at speed. I use a pick and play in a folk / acoustic group with a Tic Tac sound that cuts through the acoustic guitars and vocals.
