Jebo1 Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 My wife has just told me she's very upset that the end pin in my bass is damaging the carpet. Any ideas on what I should do? Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 That's easy - get a new wife. Or - a safer alternative is something like this: http://www.gollihurmusic.com/product/1366-SUPER_ENDPIN_BALL_ATTACHMENT_FOR_UPRIGHT_BASS_TIP_COVER.html Quote
Gareth Hughes Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 Also - a temporary solution is to use something like those rubber table mats that stop heat marks, but they're thin enough that you'll go through one soon. Quote
philparker Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 A rubber end cap is the simplest solution - other than that an additional piece of carpet with some rubber matting beneath that. My DB teacher has a specifically designed long, thin (5 cm) strip of wood where one end fits beneath the stool leg and the other end has numerous concave indents to place the end pin spike, but I've not seen one of these at any of the DB retailers - I shall be keeping an eye out, though! TheRev Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I use a Wolf ball. Not a wolf's nadger, one of these: https://m.thomann.de/gb/wolf_super_endpin.htm Quote
henrywillard Posted February 28, 2016 Posted February 28, 2016 I use a Super-Sensitive Endpin Stop. I just keep it in my bag, and throw it down on the floor whenever there's a nice carpet or rug I need to protect. Jebo1 Posted February 28, 2016 Author Posted February 28, 2016 My problems have been solved by Bass hat once again! Thanks everyone, it's really appreciated. Quote

henrywillard Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 I have a permanent rubber on the end of my endpin, so it's not just a bare spike, but I still use the Super-Sensitive Endpin Stop if rehearsing on friends' carpets or rugs etc, as the little rubber on the end of my endpin still digs in and leaves a hole and sometimes a black stain on soft surfaces such as carpets etc if I don't use the Super-Sensitive Stop. philparker Posted March 1, 2016 Posted March 1, 2016 It looks quite handy - I've just ordered one! Quote
Jebo1 Posted March 2, 2016 Author Posted March 2, 2016 I'm not sure what my cats would say about this. Do you put the catfood around the end pin?
The old cat food bowl trick !
Quote
razze06 Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Am I the only one who carved a cork from a bottle of wine into cap for the spike? Quote
Marty Forrer Posted March 2, 2016 Posted March 2, 2016 Just to expand this topic, I have a very substantial end pin with a screw-in rubber tip. Over the years the rubber has worn off the end, leaving the steel exposed. I have looked through the web sites of the usual suspects to no avail, so I have glued a little piece of rubber to the exposed steel, but I don't expect it to last. Quote

herbass Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 A rubber walking stick tip from a shoe-repair shop will do perfectly. I found one that was perfect fit on top of the original plastic tip of the pin. (I also used cork, but that turned out to be a bit slidey.) I've been using the same one for years, and it's still nice and sticky, although I play my bass quite vertically anyway! Quote
