End pin question

A rubber end cap is the simplest solution - other than that an additional piece of carpet with some rubber matting beneath that.

My DB teacher has a specifically designed long, thin (5 cm) strip of wood where one end fits beneath the stool leg and the other end has numerous concave indents to place the end pin spike, but I've not seen one of these at any of the DB retailers - I shall be keeping an eye out, though!

I use a Super-Sensitive Endpin Stop. I just keep it in my bag, and throw it down on the floor whenever there's a nice carpet or rug I need to protect.

Have had mine for years, and I reckon it will last a lifetime.

Do you use that with the end pin rubber or spike?

I have a permanent rubber on the end of my endpin, so it's not just a bare spike, but I still use the Super-Sensitive Endpin Stop if rehearsing on friends' carpets or rugs etc, as the little rubber on the end of my endpin still digs in and leaves a hole and sometimes a black stain on soft surfaces such as carpets etc if I don't use the Super-Sensitive Stop.

Just to expand this topic, I have a very substantial end pin with a screw-in rubber tip. Over the years the rubber has worn off the end, leaving the steel exposed. I have looked through the web sites of the usual suspects to no avail, so I have glued a little piece of rubber to the exposed steel, but I don't expect it to last.

A rubber walking stick tip from a shoe-repair shop will do perfectly. I found one that was perfect fit on top of the original plastic tip of the pin.
(I also used cork, but that turned out to be a bit slidey.)
I've been using the same one for years, and it's still nice and sticky, although I play my bass quite vertically anyway!
