Jimbogubson
Hi folks, this may have been covered before but I've just borrowed a mates early 90's stingray and I've noticed the output level is very weak compared to my ibanez bass. I've put a new battery in and done a few basic continuity tests on the battery clip and circuit board which hasn't shown anything up. To give an idea of the volume difference, when the stingray volume pot is at max it's about the equivalent to my ibanez' volume set to a quarter. Any ideas folks? Twincam
Hmmm that does sound low. I assume you have the eq turned to a reasonable level not all on very low. I don't think string to pick up height would make that large of a difference but it's worth checking the pu is at a correct height.
Pinball
I've have a couple and they are "low volume" when compared to my other basses, however they cut through the mix where the others fail. Check with your mate and if he is happy with it then it is probably fine.
Bobthedog
My SR5 HH is also comparatively quiet, especially when the pu selector is set to both. Luckily my RH750 allows me to save a setting with higher gain and output to make up for it. When I had my G&L M2000, I was convinced the SR5 was broken, the G&L ran so hot compared to the SR5 Edited February 29, 2016 by Bobthedog
Jimbogubson
Cheers for the replys, I remember a few years ago I'd borrowed this same bass to give to our old bass player to try as he had just bought a a 4 band stingray rosewood board and he wanted to compare it to a maple neck. He commented back then that it was much quieter than his 4 band. Does anyone know what the pickup resistance should be? Just wondering if the pickup has a broken winding or corrosion. My mate has kept this bass in the loft and garage for the past 5 or 6 years. Twat!
Jimbogubson
Just a quick edit here, just realised I 've put 3 band in the title, it's actually the 2 tone and 1 volume version. If this makes any difference and bought in 1993.
Jimbogubson
Just taking a few readings on the guitar. With patch lead plugged in I'm getting readings from 0 to 19k ohm up to about 2 thirds of the sweep of the volume pot. Then the last third of the sweep I'm getting a 0.L reading (no continuity) ??? Does this mean a faulty pot?
