I've been offered this bass for a reasonable price. What would you suggest I do about the mis-alignment?

I've contacted Wal about this... But any info would be appreciated.

I'd try to find out how it got there! worst case scenario is that someone routed in an extra pickup outside of the factory and screwed up.... as someone else noted above, more likely is that it is a bridge pickup (with wider spacing) in place of a neck pickup (though I don't think Wal would let the bass leave the factory like that, so someone must have at least swapped pickups?)

if routing is fine, it may just take sending to Wal and persuading them to swap pickups - assuming it bothers you enough.

TBH I'm sure it's fixable, it just becomes a question of how much and what you'd be "able to live with"....

I'm pretty sure there's no misalignment; it's just trick of perspective in the photos and happens on a lot of bass photos. Of course you could always sell it to me for a reasonable price if it bothers you :) Wish I'd put a bid in...

I"ve had this checked out now by the wonderful chaps at Wal and the issue quite simply is that the nut has shifted, and will need to be replaced. It's going in for a full set up...

Now all I need to is to sell a 72 jazz bass to pay for it all!

Cheers Chris, you know these basses much better than I do! I'm an inveterate worrier. Off to pick this up early next week hopefully, I'll let you know how it goes.

As it's COC there's less worry, but I wouldn't go alone and hope it's not too long a journey to Ponders Green (NE London ?). Ahh OK, well, perhaps I'll leave it then. As much as a nice cheap Wal sounds good I'd prefer not to lost out on my money or go through handling stolen goods again (I once bought a David Eden amp from a shop in Bristol, only to find out it was stolen and be arrested by the police. I had the receipt, so all was OK - apart from losing all my money!).

Cheers Chris, that was when I was a callow youth. Now I'm older, wiser and somewhat larger I'd storm in there and get my money back. As it is, I've had a few PMs about this one and think I'll leave it.

Today I was reading about chap who got ripped off by a garage and decided to park his car in the entrance wy until the owner decided to come nd see him. Hilariously, it worked with the police there so support him.

As for something else on offer, I'm intrigued! Pop me through a PM with some info... Exciting!

I messaged the seller a few minutes ago regarding the 'alignment' and got the reply....

Nice bass.
One thing...it looks like the strings don't line up with the pole pieces on the neck pick up...but do on the bridge pick up...how come?

I've been in contact via messages on ebay, hes refusing to allow me to view prior to buying although bidding starts at around £1550 with no reserve he won't let it go for any less than £2800.
I am currently the highest bidder and through a bit of digging you can get a contact number, but not in this case.
His reason for the previous sale falling through is that someone from Canada won it but he will not send abroad, it's all rubbish I don't believe it to be a genuine sale maybe a hacked email account, he appears to no nothing of bass guitars based on the way he replies.
I have now reported him to ebay as it's got to be a scam and as we all know through experience if it's to good to be true it usually is!!
