Gas is a horrible thing, once you get it there's no stopping it, no matter how hard I try, it just keeps getting the better of me. I blame basschat, every time I see all these wonderful basses I just want to have them!
Anyway, I've had to sell one of my beloved Flea basses to fund my latest purchase, and I will also have to sell my Sandberg boxer shorts to keep Mrs Anthony happy, although I can't really complain, she does tolerate my gas obsessions rather well considering..... Although it does help that I seem to have some rather good fortune at buying basses at a rather competitive price, and selling for quite a bit more!
Anyway, my latest gas purchase is a rather beautiful 1964 Fender Precision, it's been refinished in what was its original colour, fiesta red, with a beautifully aged white /green pickguard, other than the refin it's all original. I shall hopefully get it on Friday and shall post some Precision porn...

Oh come on, not actually having the bass in your possession is NO excuse for not posting decent pics!! :D
Sounds canny like, but we'll believe it when we see it! You know the rules!

Congrats, look forward to seeing the pics.
Once I packup all the giging I might sell on a few of mine to try get a YOB 64 P that I can drool over each day.

Mr UPS thought it would be a good idea to leave this one my door step for a couple of hours, the wife forgot it was coming and went to her mums, fortunately no one decided to take it away with them, because this is what a phat sound is all about, can't wait to gig her next Saturday ...

That is very delicious. Though if I had a bass like that left unattended for hours I would probably have had a stroke, but all's well that ends well... lovely bass, well done. :)

Well I've given it a good clean and a polish, I've swapped out the original pickguard as there was getting quite a lot of pressure on those brittle corners due to its shrinkage, so that's nice and safely stored away and a very splendid looking reissue 62 tort is in its place. I a,so swapped out the original machine heads for some gotoh vintage replacements which have reduced my tuning time by about 90%....so they are nice and safely stored too. I think the colour of this beauty has really come up great with a bit of elbow grease, looks like a different bass. The fretboard also had a lot of dirt on it which was hiding a very beautiful dark grain, I don't know how people feel about changing the pickguard and machine heads, but i feel as though it has made a great bass even greater!,

Chris, I hope you've got the pick guard screwed to something. They can shrink further very quickly when off the bass.

Looks great ;)

Exactly what I was thinking, get yourself a cheap precision body to keep that on Chris, and sooner rather than later.

Now, you'll be needing a period correct amp to go with it :)

But it is tempting.......

Tell me about it - I thought about buying it & I don't even play anymore! :)

I'm a big fan of tort, but a fantastic pre-CBS bass like that should only wear appropriate vintage tort or a good facsimile such as a Spitfire guard... modern tort is rubbish, to coin a phrase. Makes the bass look like a reissue. And that period mint guard is a lovely, lovely, thing... if you're not going to use it and want to move it on, PM me!! ;)

I think a spitfire guard could be on the wanted list for later this year, I personally much prefer a tort pickguard and was going to keep it for prosperity or if I was ever going to sell the bass, I suppose I could be tempted to move it on !
