ash Posted March 12, 2016 Posted March 12, 2016 (edited) CMI Jazz Bass MIJ '70s This is an old CMI branded Jazz type bass, I've also seen basses similar to this branded Grant, Maya, etc. It's actually a nice playing bass with a good neck and low action. There are experts on this forum who may know what factory it originated from. I'd guess that CMI could be Cleartone Musical Instruments - a distributor or importer's brand. The electrics are original although the bridge pickup is quite weak in comparison to the neck which produces a good strong sound. The sunburst finish is rather nice with only a couple of dings at the back, the neck is excellent, frets good, binding intact, working truss rod. The body is heavy but it's probably ply with a veneer as many of these copies were constructed. It's just over 9lbs in weight and balances well. Ashtrays are long gone though the thumb rest is there. It comes with an old strap but nothing else. Edited March 14, 2016 by ash
