fender bass string guide

I recently purchased a fender string guide for a bass i'm buiding but have noticed unlike other bass giudes the fender one does'nt have any grooves cut into it?

is this normal

And not having grooves is normal, my Fender Aerodyne doesn't have them, however my Squier VMJ does.

Yeah, its not meant to have the grooves cut into it, no idea why, because they are quite useful, but my Fender Jazz doesn't have the grooves in the string tree so I assume its normal.
