Lover, You Should Have Come Over, Jeff Buckley.

puff the magic dragon had me in tears, but I was about 8 at the time

Me too! As well as:

Born Free
Ring of Bright Water

On a more serious note I'd go with anything from the Heijera era Joni canon... so melancholic.

Currently classic Yes is still raw with Chris Squire's recent passing... e.g. Wondrous Stories with his comically aggressive high-stabbing bass right the way through a ballad together with his killer vocal harmonisations...

Gavin Bryars: Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet
as sung by a homeless man, and looped and orchestrated by Gavin Bryars.
Genius.
Moving.

Pretty much every song I have ever heard, especially if Kate Bush is singing it

Though notably and unexpectedly, I once had to sing wish you were here at a last minute pub gig, two hours after getting a phone call telling me my friend Clive had died. Sobbed the whole way through, got funny looks from crowd, except bikers, who were sobbing at it anyway.

These are at the top of my list of poignant songs. . . .

Don't Give Up - Peter Gabriel
I'm Not In Love - 10cc

and my favourite. . .
Shama-ling-dong-ding - Jesse Winchester

Peter Gabriel - The Book Of Love.
You beat me to it. "The book of love has music in it, in fact that's where music comes from" *gulp*
You can barely see it in this clip, but when the "book" opens at this point in the backdrop video, there's Tony Levin, Ged Lynch and David Rhodes as stick men waving. Lovely.

The Book Of Love was one of the readings at my wedding, which is why it's in my top 3 blubbers. The other reading was In My Life...

And we had this sung by our mutual friend who played fairy godmother several years ago:

No, there's just something in my eye

Not a very old one, but resonates recently: Possibility Days by Counting Crows. Very emotional stuff. (A lot of Adam's lyrics hit those spots for me actually.)

not really the crying type either but a few that tend to knock me into contemplation mode are:

will the circle be unbroken - bioshock infinite soundtrack
for a dancer - jackson browne (namely because it reminds me of my cousin who was killed in a car accident at 12)
are you the one i've been waiting for - nick cave
o' children - nick cave
if you could read my mind - gordon lightfoot

there are others, being a a fan of sad songs, but these seem to stand out. And the band played waltzing matilda is also one of my firm favourites, but it doesnt seem to get me for some reason.
I'm Not In Love - good pick. It gets dissed a lot but it's a great song.

Another one for Johnny Cash's version of Hurt (especially with the music video) plus a new nomination for The Power of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood - I think it's Anne Dudley's orchestration as much as anything else.

This moved me when I first heard and it still does when I listen again; I identify some of my female friends with the song's character and also, to some extent, myself...

Beatles - In My Life.

Oh yes, I'd forgotten about that one (although I should admit that I actually prefer Rod Stewart's cover of it).
