ash
I have a 60's Hofner Violin case needing total recovering - it's a Selmer era type. The green felt inside is present. Anybody any ideas? Potential costs? Thanks!
RAY AGAINST THE MACHINE
Mmm. In some guitar repairs , they have lots of spare bits .etc. Maybe a shoe repairer ( timpsons )? Might sound odd, but they probably have the tools to do the job. Over to Othet basschatters
pmjos
Try your local furniture restorer. They are always patching and covering. Its all fabric, glue and stitching to those guys.
Pete1967
^ this. Sounds like an upholstery job to me
ash
I've asked around and the material for recovering luggage is too thick for this kind of work - it's very thin material like the stuff an old 60s radio was covered in. I'm going to search around a bit more but may end up storing it and buying a new one. You can see it on the edges of the case - not the green inner cloth. EBS_freak
Try searching for tolex. I'd imagine thats the sort of thing that it's going to be covered in.

EBS_freak
I would wager you could buy a new one from Thomanns cheaper than sourcing the covering and paying for the labour to fit it... I would wager it would have more value as a tatty original 60s case over a restored non-accurate example anyway.

The case for that is battered, looks appalling and sort of lets the guitar down (which is in beautiful condition). I managed to pick up a used modern case that fitted great for £20 and have just kept the old case stored away for when it's ready to go into a museum!
