bubinga5
Subjective as always. There are many i love. Paul Carrack, Micheal Mcdonald, Stevie Wonder. they have voices with real character. instantly recognisable. I had never never been a fan of Bob Dylan but i have warmed to his style. Karen Carpenter is great. Bobby Kimball of TOTO is just fantastic. Of course there is Anita Baker. But Donny Hathaway for me, is way out there. His voice is just hugely powerful. he just controls every note so well. he could sing from the phone book and it would sound amazing. scalpy
+1 for bjork. I've always found I pay more attention to the lyrics with female singers. Janis Joplin and Aretha Franklin have to be on my list. Favourite male singer, despite the fact he launched Mustang Sally on the world: Wilson Pickett. leschirons
Depends on whether I want loud or soft so Anastacia or Eva Cassidy for female voice and James Taylor or Chris Cornell for male.
jacko
too many to choose from but in no particular order, my favourite female voices are Kate Bush, Kate Rusby, Joni and Ricki lee jones. Favourite male voice would be James Taylor

EliasMooseblaster
I don't know if it's partly down to the pitch of my own voice (some days I struggle to get middle C without going into head voice), but I've always preferred male vocalists with deeper voices. Early on it was Jim Morrison, since then I've discovered the delights of Tom Waits, Nick Cave and, even if they weren't the most technical of singers, you can't argue with the tones of Howlin' Wolf and John Lee Hooker. I also like quite a range of female singers, but one who particularly stands out is Geike Arnaert, who was Hooverphonic's lead vocalist for about ten years and then released a superb solo album. Look up Hooverphonic's Eden or You Love Me To Death and tell me that voice doesn't tug at your soul even just a bit!

KingBollock
Female: Mother Earth, Silent Force, Heart of Everything era Sharon Den Adel. Male: I struggle with this but in the end I have to admit that it's probably Dani Filth. I love Björk, too. Would love to hear a duet with Björk and Til Linderman from Rammstein. Vinny
Genre specific, certainly, as I'm not too sure I want to hear Max Cavalera head up a gospel choir or Smokey Robinson bring out an Oi! album, but if I have to pick one singer it would be Aretha all the way.
