eubassix
Been after one of these instruments for as long as I can remember. It plays great, but requires some work (aesthetic) and I might change the p/ups-EQ (all SD Bassline) as the bottom knob + switch do nothing (!). Current EQ is Vol-Pan-stacked B/T - Mids. Exceptional neck & tone (even with the current p/ups/electronics). Already ordered a new Schaller 2000/5 bridge in Black. I could return it ('item not as described') but will probably keep/improve it, as they're hardly ever seen, even on the USA sites. Twincam
Lovely wood colour. Interesting shape. I wonder why some of the electrics are not functioning.
Thanks Ts - about only 100 built, I think.
Lovely wood colour. Interesting shape. I wonder why some of the electrics are not functioning.
Thanks Aidan - I'll call round with it next time I'm over Darlo' way. The body shape is quite similar (??) to the F-Bass (photo links below) and was known as the 'Wing' (or Wing ii) bass The neck is exceptional - as is the unique neck/body joint. I'm guessing that the SD system is not original. Most seemed to have Bartolini pickups and EQ (Vol, Pan + 3EQ, so 5 knobs). Some idiot seems to have drilled an extra hole (into which I've put the switch - better than just a hole?!) and the EQ has been changed to the SD-stc3p (I think) which has a stacked B/T, so another pot effectively becomes unused. I'm thinking what to do re. the excess of knobs/pots/holes as generic systems don't usually run to 6, so it might have to be something custom(ised). Twincam
You could make the switch into an on/off and have the stack taken out and made into separate controls. That would use all the controls then??? Long as your happy with the sound.

Cavity / electronics photos below. I'd like to try something more original / 'better (possibly Bartolini - the p/ups are the same dimensions) .. but as it sounds OK/good as-is, I don't want to spend a lot of time/££ only to realise it's no better. Might just keep a watch for used components. :- Edited May 21, 2016 by eubassix

eubassix
Can't say I've seen one of those at all!
You can see further here John, although there are several (obviously)-non-Tung basses included in the photos :- https://uk.images.search.yahoo.com/search/images;_ylt=A9mSs3UF0whXsDYAjsRLBQx.;_ylu=X3oDMTByZmVxM3N0BGNvbG8DaXIyBHBvcwMxBHZ0aWQDBHNlYwNzYw--?p=Tung+Bass&fr=ytff1-tyc-sc I tried several times for one whilst in Singapore, but they were virtually impossible to get direct or S/H (from the USA). There was talk of Nicholas Tung getting back into building again (c.2008), but it seems he took a lot of deposits and then 'disappeared'... unfortunately (c. 2010/11)
eubassix
Update/warning: I finally decide to return this bass as there was just too much to sort (expensive) and the seller wasn't willing to admit or help. It could well appear again, so here are some photos of what it looks like now (or when I originally received it). The Schaller bridge is knackered (requires at least 2 new saddles plus others anchor bolts/washers). The electronics work OK but are not original plus (neither are the pickups) one knob doesn't work (in addition to the extra 'hole'). Neck seems OK but needs tidying around headstock & truss rod. Body needs refinish and is slightly warped also :-
