Highfox Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 (edited) Any love for these? Swapped my Jap fretless Fender P for this Ibanez Musician MC940 DS. (the Japanese one was the export version, basswood etc) Wasn't using the P fretless much and thought I'd get a larger variety of sounds out of this.. Always fancied one in the 80's but could never afford it. It needs a bit of attention, it's fairly well scarred and two of the machineheads have been replaced with larger fender type and as such it looks a bit odd. Anyone know what type would fit? It's not monsterously heavey and one I think I could handle for a set . Edited March 25, 2016 by Highfox Quote
EmmettC Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 I have a roadster, much cheaper but the same silhouette, it has the Ibanez heart shaped machine heads that look great. Lovely bass, by the way. Quote
Bassassin Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Lovely. I think you got the better end of that swap. Get on to the Vintage Ibby FB group and see if anyone's got any spare tuners in their parts box. Jon. Quote

megallica Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 The tuners can be tricky to find. One suggestion might be to find an old Roadstar bass which uses the same tuners and swap out the tuners. Rb760 and rb850s are quite common on eBay and fairly inexpensive. Quote

I'll keep an eye out .. You don't by any chance know what after market tuners would fit? Quote
RhysP Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 They are really great basses. A lot of the Japanese basses used Gotoh tuners with their own logos on them so it might be worth seeing if there's a set of suitable Gotohs available. Quote
police squad Posted March 26, 2016 Posted March 26, 2016 I've got one of those and it's now wearing Grovers Quote

It's the sizing and the fit I don't know. Edited March 26, 2016 by Highfox Quote
