They were new on when I bought it and while they look, sound and feel really lovely for pizz playing I need to be able to play arco at times too so have switched them for a set of spiro weichs. The E and A are tapewound monel and the D and G are nylon wound and look a bit like gut strings. E A D G Lovely mellow rootsy sound.
