The Bearded Baron
Hey there fellow keepers of the low end, I'm currently in the early stages of trying to set up my own business as an insurance broker specialising in the music industry. As part of the process I need to conduct some market research in the needs and viability of the business. If any of you fellow musos are able to assist in taking a couple of minutes to complete the attached questionnaire and email it to , it would be much appreciated, I have also set up questionnaires on Google Forms if you would prefer to do it this way. http://goo.gl/forms/n2tImr6H3L - Venue/Shop http://goo.gl/forms/5hReuqc64C - Musician/Performer We would look to cover musicians (from the hobbyists to seasoned pros), venues, manufacturers, tutors, shops, festivals, etc. As well as covering the equipment and liability side I want to be in a position to be able offer decent rates for the more standard insurances too (ie car/van, home), and also branching out to cover other entertainers. Many thanks for your time, and assistance.
EBS_freak
As a descendent from a family insurance brokers business, Id say don't do it. The bottom has dropped out the market with the big boys concentrating on putting all the small fish out of business. As a niche market, musicians can't pay to put petrol in their cars to get to gigs, so why are they going to bother with insurance? EmmettC
As a pretty busy musician, with nice gear, I have insurance, but most of the musicians I work with don't. I'm sure if someone made it easy for them they would get it, but it's too complicated for most people to bother. I do wonder how many people are gigging enough to merit getting insurance though? Filled out the survey though.

Not overly interested in becoming rich from the business, just comfortable, and ideally in the not-too-distant future, be able to invest back into the industry and support the 'grass-roots' (to coin a football-y term) part of the industry. One of the reasons I want to have the insurers available to offer the more standardised insurance is so I can help others not affiliated with music at all, but the music/entertainment industry will be the main focus of the business. Still early days yet so still refining/defining the idea and services we'll offer.

Roger2611
Don't insure, probably should but the lack of insurance does make be extremely careful of where gear is at any point whenever it is out of the house
fretmeister
I insure with Allianz as I know they'll pay out, and I'm an Equity member so my PL needs are covered.
