hi guys

well, I just received my Warwick ProFet 3.2 amp today, but I am sad to say i am pretty sure it is faulty. It makes a terrible buzzing noise when connected to the cab, or to headphones, with or without the bass plugged in. There is nothing I can do to prevent it buzzing, it buzzes like crazy regardless of the volume or gain or EQ levels. I do not wish to open the amp up, as im pretty sure this will void the warranty, so I need your help as to what to do with it.

many thanks guys

Got any dimmer switches nearby? They're terrible for causing buzz - even if they're in the next room or on the other side of the house.

Failing that - I've got a more powerful Profet 5.1 for sale that doesn't buzz. :)

It's faulty, don't open it up but send it back, if you can! Never use 13 amp fuses. I don't know Warwick but I would guess that you shouldn't put anything larger than a 5 amp fuse in the mains plug.

Why?

If you have a problem with the amp and the value of the fuse is too high you run the risk of doing some damage to the amp before the fuse blows. You really want to blow the fuse in the plug, as it's easier to change, and not the fuse in the amp. A 5 amp fuse should be high enough to cover most 500 watt amplifier's power needs.

well its just that the amp came with a 13A fuse, which i thought was a bit high. i've tried the amp with a plug with a 5A fuse, but still the insane buzzing is there

Take it back, take it back, take it back!

Regarding amp fuses, use whichever specific type of fuse is specified in the manual. Most amps will not draw anywhere near 13A in normal use but there can be quite significant inrush current on switch-on which could require either a slow blow fuse or a higher rated fuse than you would expect.
