Owen
What gets me is that people put this stuff up like it was the easiset thing in the world to do. I would LOVE to build my own bass but have the woodorking skills of a tired 5 year old

scojack
Next up body wood. This is going to be a solid body. Scored something a wee bit sweet via south america , ecologically sourced too. Bookmatched, qsawn and a bit of ripple in the grain as a bonus....,result bit thick mind ,,, IanM Edited July 15, 2016 by scojack
TheGreek
Love following the builds here...thankfully Andy delivered mine in good time...don't know how others manage the wait TBH. I'll be following this one for a while...

And that's as far as i can go,Still struggling for some pau ferro*. Keeping up the theme .....both have tops with wood from India. Edited July 19, 2016 by scojack

alyctes
Finished Trying the 3 band Artec Preamp Added a bone saddle, my first non vegetarian bass! . I wanted a good break angle for the strings which i managed to achieve, hopefully help with string tension {33" scale). Not had much time to play it yet but first impressions are very good. Hope you enjoyed the build. If it inspires someone to dust down their old woodworking tools and have a crack ..so much the better Ian Mid
My initials are MD... scojack
Many thanks for the comments fellows You should hear the fretless, it can go from a deep DB to serious Mwaaaahh and it's all in the fingers, never played such a responsive bass. It would be good to take it to a bash and see what other folks think, i generally don't comment much on 'em after they are done cause it's difficult to know if you are being subjective or not. cheddatom
could you not record it? I'd really like to hear what it sounds like
scojack
Well aye ...but that just would expose my dodgy playing..... . I don't have anything other than a cellphone to record with so not sure the sound quality would do any favours. I might give it a try...not as if i'm trying to market it. cheddatom
yeh a phone wouldn't be the best. I wonder if there's a BCer near you with a recording setup?
scojack
Got on with a few jobs while waiting for the FB... Routed out control and battery cavities. Made the cover. Hogged out the headstock & Drilled the oles.. This just arrived .. Used a new supplier who's had a few mentions on here. This was the most expensive of the 3 boards i have bought lately of the same stuff (other suppliers). Looks ok from this angle bit rough maybe.. Closer look and you can see it's never been near a plane. Sawn on all sides/faces, and it's 13mm thick ! Next to the neck blank... I've never received an FB blank like it, usually there is at least 1 planed face.. Thankfully i can deal with it but very disappointed with what was an expensive blank in the first place. So make sure you check before you buy folks, especially if you dont have a planer/thicknesser.. Ian Edited August 1, 2016 by scojack
Norris
Blimey. You could probably get two boards out of that. The fretboard I got for my guitar build wasn't planed either, but was probably a bit cheaper than yours. Planing is nice though - very therapeutic
scojack
Well a few runs through the planer later ... Looks a wee bit better Sharpened up the fret saw and got the fret slots cut That's it for this weekend. Ian PS Seen the day when I would attack that with a hand plane Norris ! The gentle (ahem) hum of an electric planer is just as good for the soul. at my age anyway Edited August 10, 2016 by scojack

Andyjr1515
It's going to be another corker I love the arm relief cut through to the back wood. You probably said earlier, but what veneer have you used for demarcation?
scojack
Cheers Andy that veneer is Brazilian Rosewood.
