Still available - 30th July 2016.

I'll regret this, but here goes...

I'm selling my G&L tribute L2500, which has been fitted with a EAST U-retro preamp - it sounds amazing (possibly more so than the original G&L pre). It was my go-to bass for the last 5 years or so, but I've changed my playing style and can no longer get on with the ergonomics. Can't tell you how much I love this bass, but it's going to start gathering dust and I'd prefer it was used by someone!

I've listed for £350, but am open to offers.

It's a gorgeous bass. I previously owned a blueburst US model, but this one is even prettier to my eyes... the colour is so rich and vivid.

The bass itself is in good condition, but is not without cosmetic blemishes. Low fret wear. The preamp was fitted by the previous owner and they cracked the clearcoat when fitting the LED (see pics). There's also another small piece of damage to the clearcoat on the front of the bass (again, see pics). On the neck, there are a couple of dings. Nothing that bothered me too much and could easily be sanded-out if required.

A couple of people have asked about weight... it's 4kg on my bathroom scales.

History of the bass is somewhat unknown, I must confess. I purchased it from a local independent (Hollywood music, Milton Keynes) as second-hand. The previous owner had traded it in for a 4-string G&L, but I don't know anything beyond that - other than that the shop said the preamp was fitted by the previous owner.

It's been used regularly for practice at home and jam sessions over the years, plus a couple of short-set gigs.

The pics don't show the case, which is in my loft - but it's a nice G&L one, fitted to the bass.

I wondered which of these East preamps is mounted here? http://www.east-uk.com/index.php/bass/u-retro.html
I see three stacked pots, two toggles and one LED. The toggles are for pickup selector and for active/passive? Or is that serial/parallel toggle for the humbuckers?
What is the purpose of the LED?

Thanks for the details!

Weird that it cracked the lacquer putting the LED in, as there should be a switch there anyway, which I would assume would be bigger.

There is the front / both / back, the Split coil switch (not there on yours, 2 way split coil, series parallel on mine), and the passive / active / active treble boost.

Very careless, I'd say. The switches seem to be ~6mm threads, and a typical clip-in mount for a 5mm LED could be a slightly larger hole size, depending on the part. I must admit, I have always assumed the crack was caused during LED fitting, but it could well be unrelated.

Apologies for hugely delayed response. The preamp is a u-retro 01 (3-knob). The switches are active/passive and then pickup selection, although the precise function of the pickup selection switch depends on the active/passive mode. In active mode, it switches between the knob blend value and a fixed, equal mix. In active mode, it switches between bridge and both (again, fixed equal mix).

The u-retro models don't have an LED. In this case, the previous owner must have fitted it in place of the removed switch. The function is simply that it illuminates when the jack is plugged into the bass. To my taste, it's too bright for use on stage, but could be easily dimmed with a change of resistor.
