It never was real tort - it was celluloid (cellulose nitrate).
You can still buy celluloid guards but they're not cheap.

I've tried black, black and maple but I couldn't help wanting it to be white, black and maple. No accounting for taste, one man's mean, nowt as queer as folk, it would be a boring world if, blah blah.

I like to have a white bass and wear black clothes, so on stage the bass draws attention away from the player... Black, black and rosewood with highly festive [i]raiment [/i]would be the antithesis, of course.
