AndyTravis
Go on then... I've just bought a build your own kit, just want a project to distract me from the pub (not a big drinker these days, just moved and I love the new local...and need a reason not to go š) How has anyone here done it? Junior hacksaw? Jigsaw for rough cuts, then work with files/rasps? It's a maple Fender type neck. I've got good woodworking capability - I haven't done this before though and wondered if anyone had pics or tales of their attempts?
Norris
I'd be tempted to use a bandsaw rather than a jigsaw if you have access to one. Otherwise, be prepared for a lot of rasp/file work. I've never found a jigsaw that will cut vertically yet, so leave plenty of material to finish by hand if you go that route
BassBunny
I've just reshaped the headstock on a Harley Benton and found a Detail Sander did the trick and pretty efficiently. If you have a lot of wood to remove using a Jigsaw first would be the way to go leaving some "meat" to finish off with the sander.
AndyTravis
I don't mind taking my time over it, used to have a lovely tennon saw but I've misplaced it during the house move... Jigsaw and sander then hand sanding for nice finish I think...
Norris
Another alternative when doing the final finishing is to use a cabinet scraper. They are quite cheap and can give a really good finish. It's basically a piece of spring steel with a burnished "hook" on the edges, and will let you get a lovely smooth finish
