solo4652
I'm a groove-a-holic, and this groove was about as taut and defined as I've heard. I just felt that there could have been some melody on top - icing on the cake, maybe.
bubinga5
Hmmm. My favourite music style is funk. These guys can lay down a tight groove, that's for sure. However, for me, I was waiting for the piece to develop a bit more - to go somewhere else and come back again. Maybe I'm too used to listening to and playing pop-funk, but I found myself listening for the hook in that video. After a while, I found myself thinking: - Yes, that great. What happens now, then? Lots of Meters in there.
i don't think that groove is about chord changes etc. its just a groove. i used to to think that, about SOME funk, not all. but then my taste from that specific Funk evolved into Soul Funk and Jazz. like Incognito. This groove is unstoppable with some awesome changes. Fantastic bass playing. Maybe too future funk groove for some, but imo it still has groove. bubinga5
A funky record from Down to the Bone with Julian Crampton on bass that stays on the same groove for a while, but when the chords change i think its brilliant. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1VtQ962tH20
Old Man Riva
Their last strict studio album was 8 years ago, so everything since 2008 is a CD/DVD combo! The DVD's are GREAT watching lots of good angles to see how each player plays, what gear they use etc.
Ta. Really fallen into the Tell Your Friends album (not watched the DVD yet). The music's right up my street, and the band are fabulous, but wow, Michael League is such a tasty player - groove and melody in abundance, and the way he plays with/leaves so much space is just great..
You're most welcome! The DVD offers such a new perspective on the songs, seeing the songs played alongside hearing them is something just magical, you almost get a whole new appreciation for them! At least I did anyway. I came to Snarky Puppy after a lecturer at college showed me the song 'Thing of Gold' I didn't get it to begin with and thought it just a showy piece of self-indulgent Muso playing, but at 16 I was firmly in the "emo" clique and had my head far and away up my arse! But after really listening to 'Thing of Gold' several months later I began to hear just why my lecturer was so excited about it, then I watched the video again and my God did it blow me away! The level of interaction from the band members, just gave me a whole new appreciation of music and being a musician. I cannot recommend Snarky Puppy more highly to people, watching and listening to this band creates so many new appreciations for the way music is played live and in the studio! Old Man Riva
Ta again - I look forward to watching the live stuff.. As an aside, the opening to the track Skate U is reminiscent of Jeff Beck's Cause We've Ended as Lovers off his Blow by Blow album, which is an album you might enjoy?
