nash
Now I love the Ramones and the 70's Fender P Bass logo as much as the next guy/girl. But why is the Dee Dee bass £100+ more than a standard MIM P bass?
Gareth Hughes
Slight derail as I've never played a 'normal' Mexican Precision, but I've just gotten a Dee Dee Precision a few weeks ago but my tuppence would be - in comparison to a Fender American Standard Jazz - why do American made Fenders cost twice the price as a Mexican one? Maybe I got a Friday special, but at £1250 or so that my US Jazz cost, it is one shoddy instrument for the price. Comparatively the Dee Dee (and I presume Mexican Fender's in general) stands up very well against a US made Fender.
Geek99
You get graphite rods in the neck and rolled edges plus better pickups I'm not sure the extra is justified myself
eyoyo
Fender production range and scale. I love that brand anyway and that Dee dee Ramone P looks really cool
police squad
yep the Dee Dee looks great. I have a MIM Steve Harris WHUFC bass and the quality is as good as anything I've seen from the USA. So don't knock modern MIM stuff
P_bass_1983
I was asking the same questions and then I managed to get a practically brand new MIM P (2014 version I believe) for £350, much less than I could see the Ramones bass for sale anywhere. I swapped the original white scratchplate for a black one and it looks exactly like the Ramones one. Plays like a dream and sounds great, I still haven't played the Dee Dee bass but don't see how it could be any better. Slightly different logo on headstock and Ramones neck plate seem to be the only differences. I'll never knock Mexican basses, I have a Mark Hoppus Signature and its the best bass I've ever played. And I've owned A LOT of basses. Never had a USA P though....
Marvin
I heard a chap testing one in Mansons a few months ago. He didn't even want to like it as he always preferred Jazz basses. We both agreed it sounded lovely. Edited April 14, 2016 by Marvin
Kevsy71
Loved my MIM P, felt about half the weight of my '79 P, and best of all took a set of LaBella 1954 flats without warping the neck. And I hear great things about the classic and road worn Mexican builds
