Bassman Head/Cab clip question ?

Hi all, I recently put together a rig comprising a Bassman 50 Head and a Bassman 2x15 cab - matching but I bought them seperately. I also bought a vintage set of clip plates to attach the Head to the Cab.

It sounds bona fide and is wonderful IMO , I just love it.

As I had to attach the clip plates that fix the Head to the cab myself, I was unsure as to how tight the plates are intended to be fixed to the head - is it meant to be free enough to slide the plates under the amp for transport, or are the clips meant to permanently stick out from the side of the amp ?
