Ibanez sR500 - Weight

Hello Everyone

Can someone please tell me the weight of a mahogany bodied SR500. I'm sure they will all be a bit different but just a ball park figure. I desperately need lightweight at the moment after an illness.

I have an SR506 (6 string version) and it's very light considering the larger body and neck.

I don't know if that helps.

Ibanez stuff is pretty much universally light IME

They're about 7.5lbs. Probably one of the lightest basses you can get

Not honestly sure that mine is mahogany, but FWIW it weighs 3.2kg, a touch over 7lb. Get well soon

Owned the 6 string version a while ago and I agree with everybody else. Nice and lightweight.

I became a bit obsessed with the weight of bass guitars and this thread, whilst 6years old was helpful. 

I've personally weighed some basses, obviously individual copies may vary:

2014 Ibanez SR600 Natural Flat : 7.2 lbs

2019 Ibanez SR 370EF Sunburst: 9.4 lbs

2021 Ibanez SR500e Walnut Okume: 8.2 lbs

2021 Ibanez SR 600e Brown Fade 9.4 lbs

2021 Gretsch G2220 Black: 8.2 lbs

 

Disappointing that the 2021 SR600e is noticeably heavier than the previous model, 30% heavier in fact.

I have a 2016 version - about 3.2kg.  I may have worn it down over the years.  I can vouch for them and say that they are very light, comfortable and a joy to play.

I have the fretless SRH500f  and it's lighter than my bedroom slippers.

 

My scales are industrial packing scales, so pretty accurate.  I weighed the bass, and realised i'd left the rather hefty 4 inch leather strap on, so weighed

the strap separately.

 

Bass with strap -  3.1 kg

Strap                  -  0.35 kg

 

So the bass actually weighs 2.75 kg ...or in old money,  6.05 Lbs

I had an SR500. I didn't weigh it, but it was noticeably lighter than any of my Jazz style basses by a significant margin. Also the most ergonomic bass i have ever played. Just didn't look right on an old fart.

That's a semi hollow bass so obviously will be lighter,the SR500 has a solid mahogany body,but is still lighter than most basses.

I thought all the SRH 500 models were the same, just fretted or fretless
