tandark
Hi folks, I'm a relative novice bassist, picked up a lovely MIJ Tokai Hardpuncher (P-style) bass second hand, sounds good through my fender rumble 500 combo, but did wonder about the wonky pickup arrangement. Does this look right? The outer edges of each half look a bit low to me... Any advice greatly appreciated before I get my screwdrivers out![attachment=216407:image.jpeg][attachment=216407:image.jpeg] Edited April 7, 2016 by tandark

Grangur
The set up of the strings is measured by setting the distance of the string to the top of the last fret. Well, that's what I do. The last fret is curved in line with the radius of the neck fingerboard. So, you then need to set the height of the pickups from the underside of the strings. With a long pup, you set this using the G and the E string only. In this case you have a split pickup. So its possible, to have the D and the A to be the same distance from the pup as the E and G - this is done by having the pick up sections wonky as you have on your bass. It makes sense. It works. Enjoy your bass!! Go make music!
