Funny old world, eh?[/quote] Yes, interesting When you consider that the general wisdom is that a neck through bass has better sustain and fewer dead spots because there are no interruptions in the vibration pathway, I just don't understand the reasoning behind placing a big lump of metal between the strings and the body. Guest BassKS Posted October 2, 2008 Share Posted October 2, 2008 well the lump of metal is denser than the body and would actually impede the vibrations going from the string to the body where they diminish and die away. If you have a nice bass with an awesome body with a really tight neck pocket (old fenders and high end basses) you dont need the badass. For cheapie MIMs and some MIJs you need the badass as it offers a point contact with the strings at the saddle so it has the fundamental frequency very defined and the high mass bridge avoids tonal contribution from the body...
