Do you notice a lot of difference in your string gauge and tone.?

I use Ernie Ball regular slinkies with a .50 G and .70 D string. I play classic rock and hit quite hard, sometimes with a pick.
I used to use the Super slinkies but the strings woud be flapping about all over the place.

I think the G string suffers most with lighter gauges. D'addario chromes with a .50 G sound and feel great imo.
