This seems like a bargain, and has a Fender branded case which I've never seen the like of before.

Not sure about the originallity of the case either it looks like one of those Ebay special Fender stickers has been stuck on, it may be an original case but I am not sure it is a Fender case....could be wrong through.

I had a Musicmaster back in the 70s, it had a mahoosive oblong case which I think (I've had a few sleeps since then) was a Fender case. This one on ebay looks very odd...

It certainly is an original case but I've only seen them with the earlier Musicmasters - with the funny non branded tuners. Maybe an earlier case with a later bass or just a creative use of mix and match 70's stock in the Fender factory. A nice vintage package for the cash however.

£500 for a Musicmaster Bass? That's a lot of money for something that will be out-performed by pretty much any modern sub-£100 instrument.

It has "fender" on it, therefore there are legions of people who will swear it's great even if it isn't.

My first bass was a Musicmaster and it was a fine instrument perfect for me at the time. It cost £85 secondhand from Kingfisher Music and I got it in the January sale. This was in 1978 so with inflation...
Ok there are lots of lovely basses out there for less money but if I saw my old one - and it was in worse condition than this one was even then - I'd be happy to pay £500 for it. A case of 'what price nostalgia' or 'A fool and his/her money'? 😳

That's fair enough. Back in the late 70s there wasn't a lot of competition at the sub-£100 price point, and I totally get the nostalgia thing.

But IME they are not particularly rare and unless you've upgraded/mod'd the bridge and pickup, they are just another cheaply made short scale bass.

And if you do mod it then hordes of outraged Bssschatters will gather with flaming torches and pitchforks [1], howling "OMFG! How could anyone BUTCHER this poor bass?".

[1] No, not flaming pitchforks
