Delberthot
After years of listening to the man and reading interviews I could never get why he was held in such high regard. I'd heard some of his stuff and I thought he was ok but tonight for the first time I watched this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e1Ea5RtNwa0 Now I understand. timmo
I guess you don`t get the amount of work he gets without being a special type of player
Japhet
Absolutely love Lee Sklar. One minute he's noodling along behind James Taylor, the next he's pumping out one of the best grooves ever on Billy Cobham's Stratus.
lowdown
Add the fact that he is a great sight reader and good quick listening ears along with his tight playing, groove and timing, you can see why he was also hired on a lot of TV series themes and film scores. One of the very best. Top, top player. Good OP video, thanks for posting - I have never seen that one. JTUK
Same as Natan East.. you don't get called as much as he does if you aren't known for nailing the gig. And those gigs aren't always the really showie bass gigs.

However, it is a very small list and those guys seem to get all the work; b@5tards! I hate them all
rushbo
He's a great example of a really solid, understated player that does exactly what is right for the tune - whether its a straight, root note pump-fest or a tangled, funky groove. Fantastic dynamics on that Phil Collins tune, too.
Painy
To be fair that whole band sounds fantastic but that's a rhythm section I could listen to all day.

spectoremg
Two points: 1. It isn't a Phil Collins tune; it's a version of the second half of the opener from the Duke album by Genesis credited to the three member of the band and, 2. This version appeared on Phil's first solo album and was credited to Alphonso Johnson which Lee seems to be playing note for note. nb. I like Lee a lot too. discreet
Lovely feel. He makes every note count too, regardless of how fast he's playing. Much like Jamerson in that respect.

EmmettC
He's everything a bass player should be, in my opinion, he's not flashy, his playing speaks for itself, and he always seems to play the perfect thing in every situation.

NickD
I love how he never looks like he's trying. Caught him with Judith Owen last year and he just sat there banging out beautiful lines while looking as if he was just sat noodling on the sofa... he was slightly upstaged when Derek Smalls came out for a number though... but who wouldn't be?
