Delberthot
I love my Musicman Sterling and I love the case that it comes with but the case is just too big to fit in the boot of my car and it won't fit lengthwise in front of the back seats so I'm looking for a gig bag. I've had a look at the £100+ ones but personally don't need anything as expensive as a Mono, I just need it to offer protection while it is in the car. I load the car myself and no one touches anything except me. If I ever put my gear in the van then I'd use the case. The bass either sits on top of the other gear in the boot or on the back seat strapped in. I don't need big front pockets, or any at all if that was a possibility, and I don't need to carry my bass on shoulder straps or for any great distance. I've been looking at these: TGI Bass Extreme SKB 1SKB-G434 Does anyone have any experience of either of these bags or are there other in this price range (up to £50ish) that would do the job? I really liked the quality of the one that came with the Yamaha BB1025 but can't seem to find them available to buy on their own. JTUK
This http://www.thomann.de/gb/thomann_premium_gigbag_e_bass_br.htm A lot of bag for the money, I've had mine for a good few months and they are probably too much bag if you are loading the car very carefully.,,as in overkill. Very padded and seem quite capable of being hardwearing but not had mine long enough to really say. Not flimsily made at all...

RickyV
Warwick Rockbag, £27.99 from GAK at the mo. I have one and it seems to be really well made, well padded, has a velcro neck holdy thing, and doesnt go overboard on the pockets but still with plenty of space for cables, bits and bobs etc. http://www.gak.co.uk/en/warwick-rockbag-deluxe-line-bass-guitar-bag/7499?gclid=Cj0KEQjwrte4BRD-oYi3y5_AhZ4BEiQAzIFxn7XxjleZtkkBVQBsA-Xj7Hj2khOG7pU9_uBDqNo6igYaAkfu8P8HAQ
gary mac
I've been doing gig bag research over the last few days and will probably be going for this one. Mid price but with a good level of padding (25mm) https://www.amazon.co.uk/Fender-Metro-Bass-Gig-Black/dp/B009DRUNDA?ie=UTF8&*Version*=1&*entries*=
dannybuoy
These are a bit bulkier but offer much more protection, almost as good as a hard case: http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Protection-Racket-Bass-Guitar-Foam-Case-Standard/KHX Edited April 19, 2016 by dannybuoy
Mudpup
The TGI Extreme youre looking at is good. I use one. Its pretty sturdy and a good size, no probs with zips. You can find them for around £30 if you hunt about. I also had the Protection Racket one but found it a bit big for my reqs, its as big as a hard case but isnt as hard on the car interior....... The Warwick one looks good too but i have seen a few fall apart quite quickly. Edited April 19, 2016 by Mudpup
Delberthot
Thanks everyone for the ideas so far I had a Warwick crosswalker which had the detachable rucksack but was very similar to the one in the link but it was a while ago so I hadn't thought about that one. I like the protection racket one from the point that it looks like the shoulder straps can be tucked out of the way as I'd never use them. I have a soft spot for anything Fender so I'll have another look at that one again. If I come across any others I'll post them up here as well
Lozz196
The Protection Racket is a great gig-bag. Yes it`s as big (and almost the same weight) as a hard case, but due to the pockets so much more can be fitted into it. If doing a gig with a provided backline you can easily get all your leads and a couple of pedals in it, so only having to carry one item - great if limited room in the car or using public transport. Very useful. JTUK
I've used Warwick and they are an ok car bag where you are basically using it as a padded carry case. Both mine fell apart after 2 years and the zips are a bit flakey..as in they can't be trusted, IMO, carrying any distance as they seem inherrently weak. Comparing the Thomann bag build against the Warwick and I'd say the Thomann bag should be double that price as it is double the bag Would like to hear from someone who has gigged theirs a good few months, so that remains a varible, but you can't go wrong for the price..especially comparing the two. For a £30 bag I wouldn't expect much... but I'd pay almost double for the Thomann... but didn't have to..
Beer of the Bass
The Thomann bag does look good - I've got a pleather gig bag for my guitar and I much prefer it to the cloth ones. If it ends up leant in a manky corner of some of the less salubrious venues it can be wiped clean!
Andytre
I order a TGI bag from bass direct expecting the black and blue one to replace the same one o had at home with a busted zip, but they sent a different one that is actully better, but not the same! might want to contact them before ordering (if you choose that one of course) The Thomann gig bags are very good, we use them at work for all the instruments we have (8 basses, 8 guitars and acoustic instruments) they all live in one when we take them out on Gigs never had a problem and they take a beating!! Marvin
I'm not a fan of the Warwick Rockbags. I had one and it didn't last very long at all, the inside lining started to come away. I look after my stuff and I only used it a few times from home to practice. Even before that it didn't seem particularly good value for money. I've had one of these before, http://www.gear4music.com/Guitar-and-Bass/Kinsman-Premium-Bass-Guitar-Bag/38R they're pretty good. Good amount of padding. I like the look of that Thomann Premium gigbag, good price.

Zips still very functional, no tears or rips to the material. Nothing coming loose inside, neck grip still grips and is firmly attached. Honestly, the best bass accessory I own and I would encourage everyone to buy one.
Delberthot
After careful consideration I've decided to go with the TGI Extreme from Bass Gear. They are doing it for £37 delivered with a free clip on tuner. Thanks for all of the suggestions, hopefully this thread will come in handy for anyone else looking for a gig bag in this price bracket

project_c
I just got one of these today, I'm very happy with it. It's going to replace my very tired old Fender 'deluxe' gig bag (which I got for £10 out of a bargain bin years ago). The padding feels solid, way better than the old one, and the extra pocket on top is really useful. Also the shoulder straps are really comfortable and unlike my old bag, they don't slice your arms off as you carry your vintage 87lbs Fender Precision. I would have bought the Thomann bag if it wasn't for the beige bits and the leathery appearance, but this one feels good, and it has Fender written on it, which we all know is extremely important and vital, so all in all I can wholeheartedly recommend it. You can pick them up for £36 at the moment if you search around, that's a good price.
jaccjazz
Here's mine from Tom and Will. Had it a few years, no problem. Well made, robust zips. plenty pockets. I have six Mono bags (bass double, electric double, bass Vertigo, two electric Vertigos and a dreadnought M80), and while they're not cheap they are worth every single penny. Fantastic gigbags.
