tobiewharton Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Hi all, I'm looking for a p bass neck for a project. Allparts and Warmoth are out of my budget, so I'm weighing up the merits of Mighty Mite and Mexican Fender. Where does opinion stand on these? Are there any others worth considering? I prefer maple fretboards and satin-type finishes and I'm not keen on vintage tints. Cheers, Tobie Quote
DarkHeart Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 Mighty Mite are fine, I got brand new maple board non tint jazz neck for £80 last year, fit perfectly, I would imagine a P neck would be the same. Quote
tobiewharton Posted April 23, 2016 Author Posted April 23, 2016 Thanks DarkHeart. What was the finish on it and where did you find it, if you don't mind me asking? Quote
DarkHeart Posted April 23, 2016 Posted April 23, 2016 It was basically a clear coat over the maple, I got it off ebay, had all the correct mighty mite stamps on it. Quote
Lozz196 Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Mexican Fender from 2012 onwards are a real step up form the previous years. Quote
tobiewharton Posted April 24, 2016 Author Posted April 24, 2016 Thanks guys. Are there generally additional costs other than postage to import necks from the US? Quote
jezzaboy Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 Strings direct do the official Fender ones. http://www.stringsdirect.co.uk/bodies-necks-c5/necks-c585 Quote
Gottastopbuyinggear Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016
Thanks guys. Are there generally additional costs other than postage to import necks from the US?
Oh yes. You'll have to pay VAT and import duty - I can't remember for sure from the last time I looked into it, but I think import duty would be around 3% for a neck from the US. You may get away without the import duty depending on the total value, but remember that you'll pay VAT on the total including the shipping costs. Depending on the carrier you may get stung for a fee by them too. Not trying to put you off (I've bought stuff from the US before), but just pointing out you need to consider the fees involved, otherwise you could get a nasty shock. Quote
tobiewharton Posted April 24, 2016 Author Posted April 24, 2016 Thanks for all the input - it's much appreciated. Tobie Quote
police squad Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 I ordered a P neck from eyparts in hong kong. http://www.eyguitarmusic.com/ cheap as chips and it is very nice. It is fretless and a maple board (which they dont do anymore) I think custom world guitars sell the same necks. Also, Northwest guitars make fabulous guitar necks and bodies (according to the guy who works on my gear) and they have started doing bass stuff http://www.northwestguitars.co.uk/all-necks/ Quote
charic Posted April 25, 2016 Posted April 25, 2016 Jesus, I didn't realise how much Mexican necks cost new! I've got one somewhere from before I upgraded it with a Shuker neck... there's not much left of that bass that's original though to be honest! Quote

Shame they don't do a 7.25" radius bass neck as they offer a vintage spec guitar neck with this for strats and tele's. Quote
Nodd Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 I got one of these for my Souped-up Squire P. I wanted the neck to be a close copy of my '75 Fender's neck. karlfer Posted April 27, 2016 Posted April 27, 2016 Don't know if this has been mentioned, can't see it, but their feedback is good and they have different types http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Maple-PB-bass-guitar-neck-slab-rosewood-fingerboard-Kluson-machine-heads-new/331590158307?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D36381%26meid%3D505cf153fef24a8d81ea29e30f5af300%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D5%26sd%3D331635891360 Quote
