sorry but there wasnt a Lemmy thread or a Jimmy Bain or a Chris Squire thread maybe its just me then that doesnt see the need to all of a sudden gush all over a tragic death?
Its a possibility that although they were all great musicians, they didn't have the impact musically on peoples lives, that Prince had.

Bar none, i think this record is just…. The sentiment, the groove the soul, his voice, his harmonies. easily my favourite. Little details like "USER"'s there are a few of those little vocal details that make it such special record. "NO DONT MATTER" I'm sure you know this record but WOW what a record.

My favourite Prince albums are Purple Rain and Gold. I'm surprised Gold doesn't get more of s mention- every song is a belter for me. The first time I heard Endorphine Machine it blew my mind. Everything I love in music- rock, funk, sassy attitude, groove, Michael Bland knocking the crap out of the kit. Like a proper Prince Party. The Revolution were amazing but the NPG seemed to nail it. Diamonds and Pearls is stunning also- those two albums together- just wow.
I'm also a fan of Chaos and Disorder- a bum release to fulfil his WBros contract but there are some cooking tunes on there.
Some of the tracks on Purple Rain haunt me a bit now- I remember hearing it when it wax released so a lot of memories come flooding back then of A levels etc!
He released some belting albums and a few duffers for me. The Paisley Park vaults must be overflowing with unreleased stuff and I fear an ugly battle for the rights to them is just around the corner.

Oh my gawd. How much funkier could it be? And the answer is none. None more funky. :D
And how much fun is that band having? Sheer joy on all their faces. Wonderful.

None of his albums - I've found a lot of his songs are a bit meh (and I say that as a Prince fan). His live jams are what do it for me so I've only got DVDs.

Live at the Aladdin is the best, shortly followed by Y2K (let down by the cringeworthy sermon half way through). Sign of the Times DVD is (ironically) a sign of it's time - its a bit self conscious and doesn't show Prince's band leading talents to the same degree as the other two.
Live at Alladdin is just quite something.

Too many. I *love* this, though. As though someone put all the funk tunes ever played into a leipzig condensor and this is what dripped out. band line up isn't too shabby, either. Fast forward to 30 seconds in to mis the anti-semite. No, not Ken.

Well to change the tempo and feel somewhat, this is just so very great.

i love the lyrics " we can stroll the mezzanine, buy some dirty magazines" only Prince could/would sing that. imo just a fantastic piece of music. amazing guitar playing.. his harmonies sung by just him are amazing. he was way out there, a genius..

listen to what he left us.

Sign of the Times
The Rainbow Children
Come
Parade
Lovesexy

All these albums have great tunes, playing and composition.
SOTT is amongst the greatest records ever made. Kind of Blue or What's Going On level

In 50 years time Prince willbe viewed like Mozart, Ellington, Davis is today.

Start one then and we can ignore it or join in as we see fit.

I'm another that has never really been into the albums, but certain songs have blown me away. For me, the ultimate Prince track is "Sign 'o the Times". It's Prince in a nutshell - sparse, funky, great use of space and socially aware. The only Prince song you'll ever need.

Can't believe I'm so late to this thread! I'm a huge fan of the purple one and whilst I have most if not all his albums and several copies of live 'sound board' recordings aquired in my youth, I can't say I have a favourite track ( I love most of them!) I think the best album is 'one night alone' probably as its like a live best of. He was an amazing all round artist, best act I've ever seen live by far. Obviously there's a few tracks which aren't on my iPod that are a bit whacky.

A couple of underrated yet great songs (in my opinion)

5 women
Money don't matter
Pope
Annastesia (any live version usually ends up over 10 minutes)
Blue light

His latest album Hit & Run phase 2 is also well worth a listen. Ironically a return to the old school for him.

Anyway, that's my two penneth worth!
