Good timing, I've just this minute sat down at my PC!

[color=#282828][font=helvetica, arial, sans-serif]christofloffer - you mentioned in your track description that you struggled to keep the meters out of the red. I used to have this problem a lot too. After reading a whole tonne of advice about it I now record real instruments at around -8 to -12 db (which sounds like it may be too quiet but you actually get a better sound). Then after effects - eq and compression and maybe some reverb - on each track they'll get to around -6 to -4 db. This leaves a bit of room to put some mastering effects on the master channel. I use T-racks for this. If any of your recorded instruments sound too quiet pop a gain plugin on them. I use Blue Cat Audio's BC Gain 3 - free I think ([/font][/color]http://www.bluecataudio.com/Products/Product_GainSuite/ - yep, free and they have some others I should check out too).

Could be due to people forgetting that they have 3 votes and not just 1.

Or... it could be due to the time-travel experiments being conducted by Mr Smalls and I [i](see above)[/i], which are no doubt causing some kind of reality vortex, resulting in such peculiarities and many others encountered on Basschat

I used to pin it... then I figured that people were skipping over it because they tend to ignore pinned topics... so I now let it bob up and down the running order of threads and give it a sly bump if it's nearing the bottom.

It seems to pick up slightly more attention/votes this way. But I might go back to simply pinning it in future.

It's a fickle business, for sure
