Dropzone
Hi Guys I have been doing some research onto the best tablet / mixer / monitor send. The XR 18 ticks all the boxes, has anyone used it. Also does anyone have anything else where individual monitor mixes can be played with? Ta Mike
Chrismanbass
It has the dreaded B word written on it you'll be fine as long as it works just don't expect it to last long or hope it breaks before the warranty runs out other options include soundcraft UI http://www.thomann.de/gb/soundcraft_ui16.htm rcf M18 http://www.thomann.de/gb/rcf_m_18.htm?ref=prod_rel_356321_10 qsc touchmix http://www.thomann.de/gb/qsc_touchmix_8.htm
Dropzone
Indeed, that's what's holding me back from pulling the trigger. It looks like a great bit of kit with amazing functionality. Just wondering if anyone had used one for a while and not had any problems. No amp in there so shouldn't be too much to go wrong. But £600 is a lot to spend on the skoda equivalent of the music world.

crez5150
We've been running A&H QU series desks for a while and they are solid. We've just purchased an additional QU-PAC which is excellent but might be outside of your budget

I guess they are trying to get away from their old image. I am planning to get a XR16, can't justify the 18 (although its clearly good), but nothing else has the same sort of functionality. I have used the X32 live. which was a revelation over what I had used before. Frankly I haven't heard anyone with one have a bad word against them. FuNkShUi
Ive been using it for best part of 20 gigs. Never had an issue. Brilliant bit of kit. Not to say the other digital mixers aren't good, i just haven't tried them. But the Behringer has been excellent for us. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have about them
FuNkShUi
I was also going to mention, we have had other bits of Behringer kit with no problems. So we have either been really lucky or their quality control is a lot better than it used to be? Edited July 18, 2016 by FuNkShUi

EBS_freak
There are no problems with the XRx stuff. There's very little in them to go wrong as it's mostly software based and a lot of the tech has come from Midas know how. You should take a look at the Facebook group if you want some confidence - there are plenty of weekend warriors and DJs using them... along guys that roll out some seriously big rigs at more pro events. They are seriously top pieces of kit - none of the competitors come even close to the fx racks in these bad boys.
Dropzone
Wow, all great response. The clincher for me would be whether you can play tracks wirelessly over the wifi from your device? Anyone know if you can? I can't justify the spend either but when has that ever stopped us ;-)

Although it you were to source an apple express, you could use that as your router and stream via airplay... or you could try using a bluetooth music receiver - but you wouldn't be able to stray very far from it. I know people who use the latter with varying results (but I think that is mostly down to the quality of the streaming adapter that they are using). FuNkShUi
We just get a lead to plug our phone/ipad/ipod into a normal input. Does the job just fine. I agree about all the FX on there. Sooo many. Would cost a fortune to buy the separate FX racks and cables etc
lowhand_mike
we've just got the X32 Rack and its awesome if you need more inputs, sound quality is top notch and our drummer is happy that we can mic everything up. recording from it as well is a good feature. if the xr18 is anything like it it will be a good bit of kit
51m0n
Just got one a couple of weeks ago. It's excellent. Definitely give yourself time to do a tech rehearsal before the first gig to get everything sported so you only have to tweak things on the gig. Dropzone
Indeed, don't underestimate my complete lack of understanding of technology. Can anyone recommend a decent Bluetooth receiver that will work minimalist with this? Ta

51m0n
Alternatively, I presume you can playback tracks through a DAW through the mixer?
Yep, upto 18 channels, but stereo are best going back through the aux channels (17 and 18). Leaves all your normal channels free. I'm running 17 channels on mine:- 1. Vox 2.Trumpet 3. Bass Trombone 4. Guitar 5. Keys L 6. Keys R 7. Bass 8. 9. Low Conga 10. Mid Conga 11. High Conga 12. Hand Percussion 13. Percussion Stand 14. Kick 15. Snare 16 Drum OH 17. Mp3 L 18. Mp3 R 17 and 18 are a tiny little mp3 player that I just leave on shuffle all night long, I then bring the fader up when I want to hear it on FOH. Works for me. If we end up with any need for even more inputs then we have several options, one is to get an XR16 and plug its outpus into 17/18 on the XR18. I use a seperate router, better security, more clients can hook up, and more range as I can place it near front of stage meaning that in troublesome busy wifi areas I can get a mix out front without danger of dropouts. mrtcat
Absolutely nothing wrong with xr gear. We have the xr x-air 18 and have done 80+ shows with it. Behringer have really upped their game in recent years with their mixers and are a brand I'd trust without reservation in that field.
