EssentialTension
I f I wanted to replace a Jazz bass pickguard what's the the best way or place to get a new one with screwholes that match up? Any suggestions, please?
beerdragon
You dont say what jazz it is, MIA.JAP or MIM. i dont think the MIM matches the other two. You could try these, explaing exactly what you need. http://www.pickguards.com/

White pickguard possibly going to tort. Thanks very much for the link. They will copy a tracing it seems but I'm wondering how likely is it that an off the shelf replacement will fit correctly without making new screwholes in the body. I may not do the change at all but if I do I want to make sure I'm not making any extra holes and I know people who have had that problem. EssentialTension
It looks like WD Music have the right shape/screwholes/cutouts etc but for the vintage look do I want the brown tort or the red tort? I'm not asking for your aesthetic preference - although you can tell me that if you want to; I go for the brown tort. I want to know which colour is closer to what would have been on an early 60s sunburst Jazz? Help me please.

Jean-Luc Pickguard
I'd get a genuine Fender one from bass parts resource Out of stock of the Torty one at the moment, but the holes & outline will line up much better than any aftermarket one. That one looks like the brown tort. But doesn't seem to have the cut out for the truss rod in which case it won't fit. waynepunkdude
With my replacement the pick up gap had to be filed out as it wouldn't fit over the top. Not sure if that is a problem but just a heads up.

Call me a perfectionist but I'm hoping not to file anything however easy it is. I'd happily buy a genuine Fender replacement (or whatever else) if I had at least a good chance of it fitting properly. At the moment I'm considering getting to like the white after all. Edited October 15, 2008 by EssentialTension

I've read at Talkbass that the MIM has bridge sized pickups in both positions and so the neck pickup is bigger than on the MIA Jazz. Perhaps that would explain why you had to file it.
