Tonywhite985 Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) Left a covers band due to the Guitarist who could not sing constantly pushing songs into the set to sing himself whilst alienating our new singer at the time. He even had the cheek to take off his guitar and sit on a stool and have the vocalist play guitar whilst he sang lead vocals on a song terribly, it was time to leave at that point. TimR Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I wanted to gig regularly. The rest of the band only seemed to want to gig occasionally and only in front of their mates. The last two bands - exactly the same. I've finally found a band that have some drive. Quote

Lightlyseared Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 One major factor was the drummer's "edgy" sense of humour which ranged from cringeworthy to "Ok this guy is an utter social liability" after a few pints. Confronting him about it only made him worse. Years later his name cropped up on the leaked BNP members list and the penny dropped. Quote

TheRev Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 2 x band not gigging or getting better. 2 x dictatorship/narcissistic control freakery. 1 x band leader's inability to manage a calendar. 1 x guitarist shagging my girlfriend. Quote

Hobbayne Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 I left one band as they were utterly dreadful! The singer/Guitarist couldnt tune his guitar or change a string. The drummer was so bad, he would do a fill and come back on the offbeat completely throwing the beat from Om Pah to Pah Om. I told him to stop f***ing around but it turned out he wasnt! I told them I got a job doing permanant nights and could not play any more. Quote
leschirons Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 My main reasons are 1) other people not living up to my (probably) unreasonable expectations and 2) yes it should be fun, but not at the expense of quality. Quote
Delberthot Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) In the last couple of years it's been a case of:

Dreamers - all talk and at least a year away from a gig if at all
The singer kept tried to tell me how to play songs that I was already playing as per the originals despite not actually playing herself
Great guys but I felt that I wasn't being challenged enough
The drummer had some kind of psychotic event that he still to this day isn't aware that he has had and still believes that this is real life despite falling out with almost every friend he ever had
Edited April 30, 2016 by Delberthot Quote
discreet Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) Three main reasons, in no particular order:

Other people's inability to separate dreams from reality.
My own inability to separate dreams from reality.
Assholes.
Edited April 29, 2016 by discreet Quote
alyctes Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 (edited) People inviting their mates to join without asking the rest of us. Being told what to play by someone who couldn't be arsed to tune his own instrument. (Getting fired doesn't count... - "okay, I'm breaking the band up" and then inexpicably reforming with different members a fortnight later counts as getting fired IMO.) skankdelvar Posted April 29, 2016 Posted April 29, 2016 * Selfishness - too loud, too long, too lazy, too absent * Mission creep - if you start a blues band don't suddenly decide that what it needs is a half-set of 60's pop covers * Gig-shyness - 'We just need another six months in the rehearsal room and then we'll be ready'.
